Weekly Report – 8th March 2020
On Sunday, 8th of March, Sudbury Joggers had nine members running three races.
Bungay Cross Country
Four members headed towards the Suffolk – Norfolk border town Bungay for the Woodton Cross Country to join forces with Newmarket Joggers.
The course was muddy, especially around the edges of the fields and some strong winds were thrown in for good measure!
In the fifth of six 5-mile cross country races in the Suffolk Winter League, Andy Buck was the first to finish for the club in position 62, followed by Gary Godfrey in 82nd position.
Despite finishing second for the Newmarket and Sudbury Joggers team, Andy was still disappointed with his position as he was unable to make up his starting place after losing his shoe in the first lap in the mud.
Ruth Cowlin was the first lady home for the club in 161st position, followed by Sheila Buck in 220th place.
Cambridge Half Marathon
Heading westward, three members of Sudbury Joggers participated in the Cambridge Half Marathon.
Finishing first for the club was Sam Couldridge (2:06:44), with Claire Rooke gaining a new personal best by 1 minute and 16 seconds by completing the 13.1 miles in 2:22:34.
Close behind, Jodie Budd finished ten minutes later in a time of 2:32:36.
Cherry Blossom
Nearer to home, two Joggers headed to the Suffolk Running Centre in Barrow, not too far away from Bury St Edmunds to run the second day of the double marathon event Cherry Blossom.
Clive Davey finished first for the club in a time of 4 hours and 16 minutes with Sarah Pennock completed the 26.2 miles in 5 hours and 21 minutes.
