Weekly Report – 9th February 2020

Quadzilla

This week, Sarah Pennock and Karen Williamson completed multiple marathons in four days in an event named Quadzilla.

Quadzilla is run around Caldecotte Lake in Milton Keynes, where each day participants will go clockwise or anti-clockwise around the lake to complete 26.2 miles.

Sarah Pennock ran all four marathons from Thursday, February 6th to Sunday, 9th. Karen Williamson ran the final two days, completing a double.

Lamarsh Lionheart

On Sunday, 9th of February, just a hop, skip, and a jump across the county border from Sudbury was the 5-mile Lamarsh Lionheart trail race.

With Storm Ciara hitting the area, participants faced 40 to 50mph gale-force winds with gusts over 65mph.

The rain held off during the event, but the 5-mile race was still muddy from the previous downpours.

Despite the weather, quite literally taking runner’s breaths away, several members of Sudbury Joggers still headed out into the Essex countryside.

Hugh Turner was the first to finish for the club in a time of 52 minutes. Turner placed 20th overall and was happy that he ran the course at the same time he had last year in much better weather.

Sally Sandford, Clare Gillibrand, Tina O’Beirne and Sian Guyton ran together and completed the race in 66 minutes.

A quarter of an hour later, Sue Crawte and Steve Roberts finished wind-swept in a time of 1 hour and 22 minutes, still in time for tea and biscuits.

Battling strong winds for 5 miles was not enough for two of the runners. Clare Gillibrand and Tina O’Beirne added an additional nine miles to their run by running home from Lamarsh.
