Our Committee

The committee in general is in control of the how the club is run. From setting the club night sessions to organising club events such as The Ekiden Relay, Summer social, Awards night etc.

The committee also ensures that the club meets all the required legislation and provides each club member with a United Kingdom Athletics (Usually referred to as UKA) affiliated running number.  UKA membership is covered by membership fees.

Below is a list of those who have been voted in as the Sudbury Joggers committee.

Chairman: Jem Smith
I joined the club back in 1998 when it was still Stour Valley Joggers.

My younger brother had just completed the London marathon and after running about 100 yards with him at mile 21, I couldn’t breathe so decided I’d better do something about it!

I’ve now completed 11 London marathons along with many others including 10 marathons in 10 days. I’ve also completed the SVP 100k run on 3 occasions.

I don’t think there would have been any way that I would have pushed myself to do these things had it not been for Sudbury Joggers.

And even better than that, the club is very social and the members like a little drink!
In fact it was said that we are “a drinking club with a running problem!”.

I joined Sudbury Joggers in July 2010 after Lyndon convinced me to come along to give it a try, I went along with David Chapman and we have been members ever since.

I honestly never thought about running anything further than a few miles for fitness back then, but Sudbury Joggers has given me the confidence to take part in races and challenges.

I’ve been a member of club since 2013 and Treasurer since 2016.

I am not a runner but love going to races and supporting my favourite club.

My first session was a 20 minutes out and back and I haven’t looked back since joining. I even met my partner Clive a few years later through Joggers.

I honestly never thought about running anything further than a few miles for fitness back then, but Sudbury Joggers has given me the confidence to take part in races and challenges.

My most memorable race to date is taking part in the Snowdonia Trail Marathon, this included climbing Snowdon.

I love the atmosphere joggers creates on Club night and at races.

I started running in 2014, my aim was to do the 5k Race for Life without stopping as I was running for my friend who had just beaten Breast cancer.

I was happy just running around my village when a friend talked me into going to the Sudbury Joggers beginners session.

Now run the London Marathon, a lifelong dream and also Race to the Stones which is 100km over 2 days.

If I can run, anyone can!

I joined joggers in 2015. I was very nervous about running with “proper” runners!

I’d only just started running after loosing 4 1/2 stone in weight. I came to the beginners session with my friend Clare who was coming back from an injury, they made me feel very welcome & I couldn’t believe I was running with real runners who were just like me!

I went back the next week and ran with the main group and the rest they say is history. I’ve now completed numerous 10k races, half marathons and 3 marathons.

The club have been behind me every step of the way they are my running family. Without them I’d never have been able to do half of what I’ve achieved. Joggers rock!

I started running at the end of 2017, ran my first race and first 10 mile run in February as preperation for the 2018 Colchester Half Marathon.

I’ve never been a runner – due to health reasons and at one point weighing over 24 stone, I’ve spent 20 years hiding indoors. But thanks to the support and encouragement from Sudbury Joggers, I am now a runner.

For 2018, I’m not only registered to run multiple 5km, 10km, 10 mile races but the 18 mile Bury to Clare and Loch Ness Marathon.

I joined a long time ago – so long ago I can’t remember the date – when the club was known as Stour Valley Joggers.

I have run many races including a couple of London Marathons and I’ve held club positions of as the first Club Secretary and then Chairman.

Now my aim now is just to keep going and not lose too much time to the advancing years!

I have been a member of the joggers since 2013. I run and race over a mix of distance from 5 miles to 100km mostly out in the countryside mixing both road and off-road running.
