Sudbury Joggers Weekly Report – 16th April 2018
Sudbury Joggers were in Norwich, Brighton, Newmarket and even Boston… that’s Boston in the UK not the USA; there was no travelling to another continent this week but let’s find out what our members have been up to as our members have run marathons, a half marathon and more.
Brighton Marathon
We had three of our members running at the Brighton Marathon. The first complete the 26.2 miles was Tina Gore in a time of 4 hours, 36 minutes.
After Tina was Jacquie Webb in 5 hours 25 minutes, shortly followed by Ann Alexander in 5 hours and 32 minutes.
Tina Gore said that she found the Brighton Marathon though going from mile 19 and slowed right down, but that never stopped her crossing the finish line in an impressive time.
Ann Alexander was fundraising for Cancer Research UK and raised £130. This was her second marathon attempt and Ann had just over an 8-minute Personal Best over her London Marathon time for 2017 and there were hills at Brighton!
If you’d like to sponsor Ann, please visit her fundraising page.
Boston Marathon
As mentioned at the beginning of this report, this is Boston (UK) is a town and small port in Lincolnshire. Found on the east coast of England, approximately 100 miles north of London, we had Charles Hann run a full marathon in 3 hours, 8 minutes and 50 seconds.
Charles came in third in his category and 34th overall, what a fantastic achievement.
Norwich Half Marathon
Heading north of the Suffolk border was two members Jimmy and Michelle. Jimmy Secker was the first of our club to cross the finish line in 1 hour, 42 minutes and 34 seconds with Michelle Holland following finishing the half marathon in 2 hours, 15 minutes and 33 seconds.
First Great Run, Newmarket
Back to our home county was Ruth Cowlin who ran the Newmarket, 5km First Great Run in a time of 27 minutes and 26 seconds. Ruth was the third female to cross the finish line.
parkruns
Our local parkrun saw sixteen members of Sudbury Joggers running at Great Cornard parkrun and those members were Todd Lewis, Chris Wells, Richard Smith, Lucy Cowlin, Kieron Savage, Wayne Mumford, Jimmy Secker, Cliff Manning, Cathy Beard, Hugh Turner, Jennifer Merry, James Wood, Steve Roberts, Rachel Miles, Zoey Battell and David Pengelly.
As always, we have members that like to travel to other parkruns and this week was no different.
Lisa Dalton ran at Ipswich parkrun, Steve Jeggo ran at Colchester Castle parkrun, Jason Smith took part in Southend parkrun.
Dominic Turner was at Shorne Woods parkrun, Stuart Mathieson ran at Mersea Island parkrun, Ruth Cowlin was running at Haverhill parkrun and finally over at the Felixstowe parkrun‘s second event was Kieran Hayles, Darren Barfield and Melonie Evans.
Final Wordz
Another amazing week for all our members. Well done to you all.
One of our members Sue Moye has been raising money for the charity MACS (Microphthalmia, Anophthalmia and Coloboma Support).
With the donations from Sue’s fundraising and raffle, she managed to raise an outstanding £317.50. To date, Sue has raised over £1,880 for MACS; Nice work Sue.
This coming weekend is the London Marathon where Sudbury Joggers has over 20 members participating and a bus full of members going down to the capital to cheer them on. Good luck to you all, you’ve all trained really well, and you can do this.
